Over the past weeks, I have continuously discovered I am undoubtedly frustrated and must remind myself, self-leadership and self-discipline are more critical in our lives than ever. When we travel through life, in pursuit of excellence, service to others, and self-mastery, there will inevitably be moments of negativity, despair, disappointment, hardship, and adversity. Our communities are dealing with unprecedented times. But the unrest presents a fitting moment for all of us to step forward as empathetic, courageous servant leaders. We must lead from a place of courage and truth, not fear and lies.
I feel we must harvest a considerable dose of strength, confidence, and determination to turn obstacles into opportunities. It is through the sharing of our trials & tribulations, traumas & joys, fears & achievements, and flexibility that makes us human and interconnected within our communities. This is an excellent time to be kind to one another.
When darkness, detours, and hurdles present themselves along our journey, may we find light, comfort, and peace in the following quote from Mother Teresa:
“People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centred. Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies. Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and sincere, people may deceive you. Be honest and sincere anyway.
What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight. Create anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous. Be happy anyway.
The good you do today will often be forgotten. Do good anyway.
Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway.
In the final analysis, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.”
I am learning one of the most profound traits about humankind is our capacity to grow, heal, survive, and thrive in times of unspeakable uncertainty. Truth and teamwork will be our saving grace and moral guiding compass over the coming weeks, months, and years.
Never stop believing in you, asking the question ‘Why?’, and living free.
Be unique, smile, and continue learning.
